PSY3035 · Psychological science in Malaysian practice

In this work integrated learning unit you will employ psychological knowledge and skills into the community. You will be embedded within host partner organisations or settings, to demonstrate the broad range of opportunities that are available to psychology graduates, and diverse settings in which psychological knowledge may be applied. The professional and transferable skills that you will develop will improve work readiness. You will complete a unique research project or work experience-based project jointly defined by the host partner organisation and the unit coordinator. Potential streams include industry, clinical and community, research and global settings. The main component of the unit may involve you completing a placement. This will be in addition to time spent on reflection, self-directed learning and maintenance of assessments, spread across the unit.

The Handbook does not list a final examination among the assessment items, but there may still be one.

Assessment in this unit includes hurdle assessment tasks. Failure of any hurdle assessment task may result in failure of the unit.

1. Critically evaluate your own actions, leadership skills, and professional development.
2. Evaluate how core concepts and theories of Psychology relate to a variety of project settings.
3. Explore how to effectively apply interpersonal skills to collaborate with others in a project setting.
4. Communicate clearly and effectively professional expectations, and the benefits and challenges of working in an interdisciplinary environment.
5. Apply critical thinking and decision making in real-world scenarios encountered during capstone projects.

7 hours of self learning materials and/or pre-recorded lectures throughout the semester. 5 hours of workshops throughout the semester. 7 hours of tutorials throughout the semester. Preparation: Eight hours background reading/preparation for lectures, tutorials and assessment tasks per week. Attendance at tutorials is recommended in order to successfully complete in-class activities and related assessment tasks. Some projects may have a work integrated learning component. Please refer to available projects for details on workload requirements within those projects.
