Learning outcomes
- Identify a variety of theoretical approaches to counselling including individual, group and systems approaches.
- Apply techniques used by various theoretical approaches to counselling.
- Recognise the influence of personal values and belief systems, and the importance of introspection, to the counselling process.
- Identify ethical issues and ethical decision making in counselling
- Evaluate the complexities involved in working with diverse populations in the counselling profession.
Workload
2 hours of lectures per week. 1.5 hours of tutorials weeks 2-12. Induction tutorial: 1 hour in Week 1 of semester Preparation: 8 hours background reading/preparation for lectures, tutorials and assessment tasks per week. Attendance at tutorials is recommended in order to successfully complete in-class activities and related assessment tasks.
