Overview

In this preparatory unit, you will complete the foundational requirements mandatory prior to commencing your third-year industry placement in Psychological Science in Practice (PSY3034) in semester two. You will undertake essential pre-placement tasks and, through these activities, develop an understanding of professional expectations, administrative processes, and compliance requirements associated with work-integrated learning in undergraduate psychology. Successful completion of this unit confirms your eligibility to begin your industry placement.

Learning outcomes

  1. Demonstrate compliance with Monash University and relevant legislative requirements for student placement eligibility.
  2. Participate in a placement interview and application process to demonstrate professional communication and eligibility, and to support appropriate placement matching for future industry placement.
  3. Complete and submit all required student placement-preparation documentation accurately and by the specified deadlines.
  4. Demonstrate professional eligibility by understanding the key processes, expectations, and professional standards for future engagement in the industry placement unit (PSY3034 Psychological Science in Practice) and with host organisations.

Workload

You will participate in one in-person seminar (2 hours) introducing the purpose of the unit and preparing you for your upcoming industry placement. In addition, you are expected to spend approximately 3–4 hours on self-directed activities, which include completing compliance requirements, undertaking the interview/application process, reviewing the placement preparation materials, and ensuring eligibility for placement through a pre-placement online quiz.
