Overview
You will be introduced to the principles and expectations of professional practice in speech pathology. You will explore topics such as clinical governance, ethical decision-making, documentation, and workplace communication. You will examine the roles and responsibilities of speech pathologists across various settings and develop the professional behaviours required for placement. Through simulated learning experiences and reflective activities, you will prepare for the transition from academic to clinical environments. Emphasis is placed on interprofessional practice, safety, accountability, and culturally safe and responsive care.

- Use foundational principles of professional practice in speech pathology, including professional conduct, evidence-based practice, and ethical decision-making in session planning.
- Apply standards of professional communication and record-keeping, including maintaining accurate, timely, and secure documentation and obtaining informed consent.
- Reflect on developing personal and professional identity to support the transition from academic study to clinical practice.
- Evaluate and reflect on the importance of safety, accountability, and culturally responsive care in professional practice.
- Analyse and evaluate interprofessional practice, including the roles and contributions of other health professionals, to support effective collaborative, client-centred care.
