Overview

With a focus on sustainable urban development and design, this unit focuses on the concepts for integrating information and communication technologies in urban environments. It provides a foundation in the underpinning concepts and skilling in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.

Learning outcomes

1. Describe the role of technology in contemporary sustainable development practices;
2. Apply critical thinking skills in the integration of technological systems in urban design processes and outcomes;
3. Demonstrate skill development in the application of GIS in urban design processes;
4. Demonstrate competence in communication and presentation skills of GIS software;
5. Understand and apply the rules of occupational health and safety appropriate to the unit of study.

Workload

12 hours per week including 3 contact hours. The remaining 9 hours are to be used for self and group learning activities.
