This unit explores how smart technologies and systems inform urban design at the township scale, drawing on principles of spatial organisation, neighbourhood morphology, and connectivity. Using a project-based, data-enhanced approach, you’ll examine frameworks for creating technology-enabled township environments that enhance climate resilience and liveability.

Learning outcomes
- Implement technology-driven solutions in urban design by leveraging Geographic Information System (GIS) and 2D/3D explorations with increasing skill;
- Address complex township-level challenges through strategic planning;
- Collect, analyse, and interpret a range of data for township design using relevant contemporary technologies and data science platforms;
- Effectively communicate design ideas and proposals through visual presentations, models, and reports, using clear and persuasive design language;
- Work collaboratively in a studio setting, incorporating feedback to refine and iterate design experiments toward a final proposal.
Workload
12 hours per week including 3 contact hours. The remaining 9 hours are to be used for self and group learning activities.
