Overview

This unit builds on Urban design studio 3A’s systems integration by focusing on adaptive urban design for specific sites that respond flexibly to evolving urban needs. You will explore tactical urbanism and adaptable design solutions that support rapid, responsive development within urban areas, accommodating informal uses, temporary installations, and community-driven design.

Requisites

Learning outcomes

1. Critically reflect on and practise ethical approaches to contemporary urban design;
2. Apply and integrate knowledge and research to develop a range of planning and design scenarios by modelling, visualising, projecting, and evaluating urban design outcomes across scales;
3. Strategically respond to complex problems related to sustainable urban development and city-making practises by leveraging relevant contemporary technologies with increasing skill;
4. Effectively communicate design ideas and proposals through visual presentations, models, and reports, using clear and persuasive design language;
5. Work collaboratively in a studio setting, incorporating feedback to refine and iterate design experiments toward a final proposal.

Workload

12 hours per week including 3 contact hours. The remaining 9 hours are to be used for self and group learning activities.
