This professional practice unit teaches different tools and techniques used in the practice of urban planning and design, and provides hands-on training of their application in the context of strategic planning scenarios.

Requisites

Learning outcomes

1. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the types of tools and methods required to analyse strategic planning problems that are commonly used in urban planning and design practice, including identifying and collecting data;
2. Demonstrate proficiency in applying techniques and methods commonly employed in planning practice, including skills in GIS and statistics;
3. Integrate skills in spatial analytical methods to effectively research and analyse planning problems, seeking innovative solutions to complex urban challenges;
4. Effectively communicate projects, demonstrating the ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
5. Engage in ethical data collection and analysis, recognising the complex implications for communities and environments;
6. Adapt to evolving technological challenges, seek new knowledge, and engage in continuous self-directed learning.

Workload

12 hours per week including 3 contact hours. The remaining 9 hours are to be used for self and group learning activities.
