In this double degree you will learn to apply your thinking in a commercial capacity and develop the skills required to solve complex problems, while developing a depth of expertise in economics. This gives you a unique skill set. For example, economics provides the foundational understanding of finance and actuarial studies, but combined with majors in actuarial studies or finance you will have substantive knowledge across all three. Economics is the science of allocating scarce resources to maximise people's welfare. Economists study both the microeconomic decisions of individuals, business and government, and the macroeconomic behaviour of the economy as a whole. Two specialisations provide a professional education in economics: economics and economics policy, and mathematical economics and econometrics. Both specialisations are designed to encourage logical thought and detailed analysis of economic issues that can be adapted to a range of careers.

You must complete 192 credit points, of which 96 credit points are from the Bachelor of Commerce (including all the requirements in Parts A, B and C for the single degree) and 96 credit points are from the Bachelor of Economics (including all the requirements in Parts A, B and C for the single degree). In this double degree you will complete one major in the Bachelor of Commerce (B2001) and one specialisation in the Bachelor of Economics (B2031). Where you have space in your degree you may complete an additional major. Some majors, minors and specialisations include the same units. Where this occurs, up to 12 credit points may be shared between: - two majors; or - a major and a minor; or - a specialisation and a major or minor. Note: Units can only count toward one minor. They cannot be shared across multiple minors. Specialist degree overlap: Some units in your specialist degree may overlap with your major. Where this occurs, up to 12 credit points from your Bachelor of Economics may also count towards your major in the Bachelor of Business component of your double degree. Core units overlap: In a double degree, some core units may appear in both courses. Where the same core units are required in both components of the double degree, you must complete other units in their place. You may replace up to six overlapping units. These units may be chosen from: - the Faculty of Business and Economics or from across the University (provided you have met the relevant prerequisites and there are no enrolment restrictions) - a 12 or 24 credit point project, international experience or internship; - Flagship Rich Educational Experiences (FREE); - a minor in another discipline.
