Data analytics and business intelligence are indispensable facets of modern businesses. Industry need for data is increasing, as organizations harvest information from datasets for strategic decision-making. The combination of business and computer science equips you with the skills to harness big data, apply analytical tools and provide innovative solutions to the ever-evolving business challenges. These skills are inter-related. Business graduates with computer science expertise are well positioned to ride the wave in big data; while business knowledge enables computer science graduates to interpret data and communicate outcomes in a more nuanced, effective manner. In every business sector, from banking and finance, manufacturing, logistics to marketing, computing expertise significantly enhances business analytics. At the same time, you will gain all the benefits of each degree and be fully equipped to pursue a career in either field or to combine the two in your chosen work. The business and commerce course is designed to provide you with high-level skills in a range of key business disciplines. It will provide you with the skills to work in and manage different functions across an organisation. It blends a conceptual theoretical framework with practical applications, providing both a broad basis for business and commerce study and the more specific knowledge of your selected major. The computer science course equips you with the skills to apply computers and software to problem-solving. Its practical applications span all disciplines including science, engineering, business and commerce, creative and performing arts and the humanities. You will learn how to think like a computer scientist about processes and their descriptions. This will enable you to design algorithms (instructions for computers) and data structures (ways to store information). You will also acquire practical programming skills to implement these in efficient software that solves real-world problems. The course provides strong foundations in the theory of computation and its connection to mathematics. You have a choice of two specialisations – Algorithms and software studies or Data science. Algorithms and software studies examines graphics, intelligent systems and networks in greater depth; whereas a specialisation in data science pertains to the handling of massive datasets of the information age. (Please note the Data Science Specialisation is not currently offered.) Your studies will conclude with a significant project in the area of your specialisation.

You must complete 192 credit points, of which 96 credit points are from the Bachelor of Business and Commerce (including all the requirements in Parts A, B and C for the single degree) and 96 credit points from the Bachelor of Computer Science (including all of the requirements in Parts A, B, C, and D for the single degree). In this double degree, you will complete your Bachelor of Computer Science (C2001) specialisation and one major in the Bachelor of Commerce (B2026). Where you have space in your degree you may complete an additional major. Some majors, minors and specialisations include the same units. Where this occurs, up to 12 credit points may be shared between: - two majors; or - a major and a minor; or - a specialisation and a major or minor. Note: Units can only count toward one minor. They cannot be shared across multiple minors.

You must complete 96 credit points from Parts A, B and C as described in the Bachelor of Business and Commerce. Note: If you are completing the Accountancy major as part of your double degree, ECM1953 is required for professional accreditation.

You must complete 96 credit points, including all of the requirements in Parts A, Part B, Part C and Part D, for the Bachelor of Computer Science. Note: If you are enrolled in the Bachelor of Business and Commerce and Bachelor of Computer Science (B2048), you may only complete the Algorithms and Software specialisation.
