Overview

This capstone unit integrates prior learning gained throughout the Bachelor of Accounting course and prepares you for transition to a professional career and for undertaking postgraduate studies. You will be required to analyse, synthesize, critically evaluate, and apply knowledge and skills acquired over the course of your studies to real-world scenarios. You will also be required to reflect on the role of accounting in organizations and society more generally, and will develop professional judgement, as well as the key skills that are expected of accountants.

Learning outcomes

  1. analyse, synthesise and critically evaluate the effect of accounting policies, regulatory environments and other external factors on firm behaviours and long term sustainability of the organisation
  2. analyse business models and evaluate the financial and non-financial drivers of competitive advantage and value creation, including their impact on a broad range of stakeholders
  3. appraise the role of accounting and accountants in strategy formulation and implementation, considering sustainability, social responsibility, and ethical decision-making in contemporary contexts
  4. interpret financial and non-financial information to justify and communicate business advice to address contemporary issues and challenges
  5. reflect on professional values, attitudes and personal development
  6. collaborate effectively with others to examine, discuss and address contemporary business issues and challenges

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
