Overview

This unit expands on advanced concepts and skills relevant to the architectural design of a medium scale, complex project. The unit elaborates on architectural design as a process of investigation, critical observation, and experiment. Studies in the unit will focus on the iterative development of design as a visual language and process of cultural production with an emphasis on social and environmental sustainability.

Learning outcomes

  1. Identify relevant site, cultural and contextual parameters as part of design research;
  2. Apply knowledge from environmental science and building technology in the material, structural and constructional development of a medium scale, complex design project;
  3. Synthesise and visually communicate design research in the exploration of a medium scale, complex project design options and outcomes;
  4. Recognise the impacts of diverse forms of community consultation and collaboration during the design process;
  5. Promote health and wellbeing outcomes for Country through an understanding of Indigenous Peoples aspirations of care through appropriate siting, spatial configuration and material;
  6. Critically evaluate and communicate design options in response to the project objectives and brief.

Workload

24 hours per week including 6 contact hours plus 18 hours of independent study, or equivalent.
