Overview

This unit expands and consolidates advanced concepts and skills relevant to architecture design. The unit elaborates on architectural design as a process of investigation, critical observation, and experiment. Studies in the unit will focus on the iterative development of design as a visual language and process of cultural production with an emphasis on social and environmental sustainability.

Learning outcomes

  1. Identify relevant site, cultural, intellectual and contextual parameters as part of design research;
  2. Apply knowledge from environmental science and building technology in the design development and building performance of a project;
  3. Synthesise and visually communicate design research with critical sensitivity to diverse contexts in the exploration of project design options and outcomes;
  4. Recognise the impact of, and respond to, diverse forms of stakeholder input and collaboration in design developments;
  5. Promote health and wellbeing outcomes for Country through an understanding of Indigenous Peoples aspirations of care through appropriate siting, spatial configuration and material;
  6. Effectively develop and communicate architectural responses to design briefs and explorations.

Workload

24 hours per week including 6 contact hours plus 18 hours of independent study, or equivalent.
