Overview

Building on and consolidating work completed in previous Chinese studies, this unit will further introduce you to a range of texts of different genres in contemporary Chinese. Your ability to understand contemporary China and their skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing will be further developed.

Learning outcomes

1. communicate complex ideas in both spoken and written forms, consolidating the language skills already acquired in Chinese Advanced 2;
2. critique a range of texts in contemporary Chinese;
3. utilise cross-cultural communication strategies through translation and critical thinking of a range of social and cultural topics concerning contemporary China.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
