Overview

In this unit you will examine a number of further key conceptual and practical issues in Chinese translation studies. You will continue to develop your intercultural and inter-lingual communication skills through various translation projects and critical reading of a range of different representations of Chinese translation works. Through reading selected scholarly writings on Chinese and Western translation history, you will observe enhance this cultural communication activity in perspective. In addition, you will critically appraise translation in the form of writing translator’s notes.

Learning outcomes

  1. analyse and explain the essential theoretical and practical issues in modern Chinese translation activities and studies;
  2. apply techniques of translation techniques between Chinese and English;
  3. situate and discuss the place of prominent figures in Chinese and Western translation history.

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study.
