Overview

In this unit you will further your bilingual communication skills by applying them across a broader range of contexts. You will focus on practical applications in areas such as finance and trade, banking and insurance, legal matters, and interview techniques. You will develop advanced interpreting skills relevant to these specialized fields, further refining your ability to handle complex communication tasks. You will be prepared for advanced translation and interpreting studies with confidence, including participation in NAATI accredited courses and exploring pathways to postgraduate studies and professional development opportunities.

Learning outcomes

  1. critically analyse the key concepts and theories of interpreting, including the differences between verbal and non-verbal interpreting practice;
  2. apply advanced verbal and non-verbal interpreting skills in both Chinese and English to develop strategies for a wider range of real-life communicative activities, including solutions to challenges in decoding and encoding messages;
  3. Demonstrate multicultural understanding to convey culturally specific information clearly and appropriately in the target language.
