Overview

In this unit you will explore the fundamental theories and concepts required for the different domains of interpreting practice. You will develop key techniques such as summarising, memory enhancement, note taking, public speaking skills and strategies essential for real-life communicative activities. You will develop your linguistic competence and interpreting skills in both Chinese and English, equipping you with essential cross-cultural communication competence.

1. analyse and explain the key concepts and theories of interpreting, including verbal and non-verbal interpreting practice;
2. apply key interpreting principles to develop solutions to challenges in decoding and encoding messages during interpreting;
3. recognise multicultural contexts and convey culturally specific information clearly in the target language.
