Under the guidance of an academic supervisor, this unit allows you to develop a proposal for an independent research project which contributes to the body of knowledge in the field of business and commerce. As part of the process of research proposal development, you will identify a specific research area which is significant and worth exploring based on scholarly literature in the field. This proposal forms the foundation for project implementation in BEW4100 Final Project and Report unit during the subsequent semester.

Learning outcomes
- develop a research proposal which has a potential contribution to knowledge in the business, professional and/or public policy communities
- critically evaluate academic literature to inform the scope of research, theoretical underpinning and methodological approach
- communicate proposed research ideas in written and oral form in a professional manner.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
