Overview

This unit aims to develop your financial modelling skills using Excel. Topics include the development and application of financial spreadsheets, data and sensitivity analysis, portfolio optimisation, and financial models.

Learning outcomes

  1. introduce the concept and principles of financial modelling and develop the skill set required
  2. use Excel to effectively model financial problems and handle financial data
  3. apply critical thinking, problem solving and presentation skills to individual and/or group activities dealing with modelling in finance and demonstrate in an individual summative assessment task the acquisition of a comprehensive understanding of the topics covered in BFF5936.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
