Overview

As a foundation, this unit introduces you to the concepts of finance, financial mathematics, investment analysis, the financial system, risk management and the relationship of finances to other commercial disciplines.

Learning outcomes

1. describe fundamental finance concepts applicable to both business and/or personal finance.
2. employ financial software, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to demonstrate a practical understanding of fundamental finance concepts in both business and/or personal financial contexts
3. apply the fundamental concepts of finance to real-world financial scenarios using market and financial data.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
