Overview

This unit provides a comprehensive examination of the Indonesian legal system with a focus on business-related legal frameworks. You will gain an understanding of Indonesia's unique legal landscape, including its civil law foundations, Islamic influences, and customary elements. The course covers essential business law topics including contracts, consumer protection, torts, privacy laws, and business organizations. Special attention is given to how these laws affect business operations in the Indonesian context.

1. Explain Indonesia's legal system (civil law, Islamic influences, customary elements) and how it regulates business
2. Understand Indonesian business-related laws (contracts, consumer protection, torts, privacy, business organisations) and their impact on business operations
3. Analyse business scenarios in Indonesia to identify legal risks and potential outcomes
4. Apply legal reasoning to solve problems and make informed business decisions in the Indonesian context
5. Recognise ethical business obligations under Indonesian law.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
