Overview

The unit covers common areas of application of applied econometrics such as: Macro & Finance, Micro and Health, Energy and Climate. Through a combination of lectures, group discussions, and small assessments, you will gain a firm grounding on each area. You will then complete a major case study report on one of the areas of application.

Learning outcomes

  1. deal with case studies and empirical scenarios associated with real-world datasets, empirically relevant econometric models and methods, and implementation of computational algorithms
  2. learn how to write a comprehensive research report summarising research findings.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
