Overview

Introduction to survey methods including probability and non-probability sampling and online surveys. Statistical inference in finite population sampling will be introduced (design-based and model-based inference). Strategies in the analysis of survey data (modeling and other applications) will be discussed.

Learning outcomes

  1. explain basic concepts and principles in planning and the conduct of sample surveys
  2. use different statistical inference paradigms in analysing survey data
  3. develop models using survey data for application in business, industry, and the public sector
  4. integrate survey methods into the process of statistical analysis as one possible data collection strategy.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
