Overview

The Professional Practice unit enables you to build and improve on the professional skills needed to succeed as an IT Professional. You will explore a range of theoretical and practical skills including complex communication, conflict resolution, team work, and cross cultural skills as well as skills to navigate ethical challenges related to technology. It looks at the role and importance of professional associations. Through a combination of enquiry based self-research, facilitated discussion and practical assignments, you will gain an understanding of the underlying theories and strategies to help them more effectively apply these skills to situations faced in the workplace. As part of this journey, you will have the opportunity to reflect on and improve your existing professional skills by exploring how they do things, reflecting on whether best practices are being applied and evaluating how you could continue to improve. You will create a portfolio to facilitate and record these reflections for your future career. Study in FIT5122 supports study in FIT5120, therefore students enrolled in FIT5120 should enrol in FIT5122 in conjunction with FIT5120 where possible. Students enrolled in the research stream should take FIT5122 with their research units.
