You will be introduced to the fundamentals of population-level disease prevention and the key principles, and frameworks of Health Promotion. You will examine concepts and theories that are used to promote health and prevent disease at the population level, and you will apply these theories and strategies to empower individuals and communities and create supportive environments for health. In this Unit, you will gain an understanding of Health Promotion's key concepts, values, and methods and their application to current health priorities.

Learning outcomes
- Define contemporary Health Promotion, and describe its history, values, and principles.
- Identify and apply key frameworks, theories, and approaches used in Health Promotion and disease prevention.
- Describe the role of Health Promotion in addressing the determinants of health.
- Identify and evaluate a diverse range of health promotion initiatives.
- Apply planning theories and frameworks in the creation of a Health Promotion initiative.
Workload
The total workload requirement for this unit is 12 hours of work per week. This incorporates the following; 2-hour tutorial, 4 hours of directed learning activities, and 6 hours of private study.
