Overview
Contract law addresses the concepts, principles and rules used to determine the existence, content and defeasibility of legally-binding promises, and the theoretical basis of this law. In this unit you will examine the formation of contracts (including agreement, intention, consideration and certainty), capacity to contract, the enforceability of contracts (including privity), and the content and interpretation of contracts. You will also examine vitiating factors, performance and discharge of contracts (including through termination for breach), and remedies relevant to contracts.

Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of key principles of contract law.
- Identify and articulate complex contract law issues in factual scenarios.
- Engage in high-level critical analysis and application of case law and legislation, and use sophisticated legal reasoning to respond to contract law issues.
- Communicate effectively and persuasively.
Workload
36 contact hours per teaching period (either intensive, semi-intensive or semester long, depending on the Faculty resources, timetabling and requirements). Students will be expected to do reading set for class, and to undertake additional research and reading applicable to a 6 credit point unit.
