MAP5010 is designed to allow you to implement the research proposal developed in the prerequisite unit (MAP5000 - Research in Advanced Health Care Practice). You will develop skills in gathering data, interrogating it using acceptable analytical processes, and developing an informed and defensible conclusion. Through an iterative and collaborative intellectual process with your supervisor, you will create either a written research report or a ready-for-submission journal article. The work will be also be presented orally to an academic and professional audience. Successful completion of MAP5000 and MAP5010 with an overall grade of 70 Distinction or above may permit a student to apply for a graduate research program including the PhD at Monash University.

Learning outcomes
- Implement persuasive data collection and management strategies, ensuring data integrity, ethical and legal responsibilities are maintained..
- Interpret and justify implications and their significance in the context of the research question.
- Synthesise critical arguments in relation to the existing literature about the topic.
- Justify findings and generate defensible conclusions with respect to the existing literature on the chosen topic.
- Substantiate how writing skills have evolved overtime to meet academic standards associated within own thesis and/or publications.
- Manage time and resources independently to achieve predetermined goals.
- Communicate findings and impacts of research to a variety of audiences using different modalities.
Workload
Minimum 1 hour per week consultation with supervisor either face-to-face or electronically, 11 hours per week directed research activities which may include on-line tasks (project dependent), 12 hours per week for self-directed study.
