This unit is designed to support in the preparation for the independent research project. The unit will facilitate the capacity to translate thoughts and interests around health care into a sound research project by undertaking a critical review of the literature, and developing a research proposal which is feasible and ethical.

Learning outcomes
- Explain how the use of research is a basis for decision making in the health care policy and clinical arena particularly in its application to health care practice;
- Formulate a research question that addresses an evidence gap in health care;
- Critically analyse the research literature in response to the proposed research question;
- Develop a feasible and ethical research proposal for implementation within a health or community setting to address a novel research question.
Workload
6 hours of teacher-directed study per week, including a weekly online tutorial and an online individual application discussion via an open calendar booking system. Teacher-directed learning and activities occur via Moodle. 6 hours per week of self-directed study. Total per week = 12 hours
