Overview
Increasing numbers of women experience chronic and acute illness during their pregnancy and in the postpartum period. Consequently, midwives need to know how to manage high-acuity situations and advanced clinical interventions. The aim of this unit is to equip you with the knowledge and skills to confidently and competently care for women who require complex midwifery interventions during this period of time. This unit comprises theoretical and clinical requirements. Within this unit, you will develop advanced clinical assessment skills to assess, plan and implement appropriate midwifery care of the acutely unwell woman during their pregnancy and/or postpartum period. Emphasising an evidence-based approach, you will assess the effectiveness of pharmacological interventions, while communicating and collaborating with the woman, her family and others to ensure positive outcomes for all involved during this complex time.
