Overview

In this unit you will undertake a comprehensive exploration of core Health and Safety risk management concepts, risk assessment techniques, and decision-making processes. You will gain a deep understanding of the principles, framework, and process of ISO 31000 risk management standards, including assurance activities. The unit emphasises the comparison and contrast of ISO 31000 risk assessment processes with existing governance and compliance approaches. Additionally, you will learn to communicate the critical importance of engaging stakeholders in risk assessment and the implementation of effective controls. Upon successful completion of this unit, you will be proficient in demonstrating, explaining, comparing, and communicating key aspects of risk management, preparing them for advanced roles in Health and Safety risk management.

Learning outcomes

  1. Describe core Health and Safety risk management concepts, risk assessment techniques and decision-making processes.
  2. Critically evaluate and apply the principles, framework, and process of ISO 31000 risk management standards including assurance activities.
  3. Plan, critically evaluate and apply various Health and Safety ISO 31000 risk assessment processes in alignment with existing governance and compliance approaches.
  4. Communicate the importance of engaging stakeholders in Health and Safety risk assessment activities including implementing effective controls.

Workload

10 hours of off-campus study per week, including: 6 hours self-directed-online learning & 4 hours teacher-directed online learning per week; and 3-day block of face-to-face learning, on-campus.
