In this unit, you will learn about hazards encountered in workplaces, including chemical and biological hazards. You will develop and apply skills to evaluate and measure hazards and the risks they present to workers. You will also learn how to assess and manage such risks in workplaces, enabling workers to do their jobs without undue risk to their health and wellbeing.

Learning outcomes
- Assess workplace hazards and understand the principles of measuring exposures, assessing the risks they present and risk management options
- Critically evaluate and apply evidence about the health effects of workplace exposures to inform evidence-based interventions
- Plan, critically evaluate and recommend practical strategies to mitigate risks presented by workplace hazards
- Communicate fluently with diverse audiences about workplace hazards, risks and risk management, using appropriate terminology.
Workload
10 hours of off-campus study per week, including: 6 hours self-directed-online learning & 4 hours teacher-directed online learning per week; and 3-day block of face-to-face learning, on-campus.
