Overview

In this unit you will have the opportunity to examine the complex factors contributing to diabetes-related foot wound development, including aetiology, pathophysiology and weight bearing functions. Learning opportunities will enable you to analyse the multifactorial causes of foot ulceration in people with diabetes-related foot disease. You will formulate evidence-based, holistic management plans that integrate clinical assessment with local wound care, pressure reduction techniques, medical management, and psychosocial considerations to optimize patient outcomes. This knowledge will prepare you to evaluate the effectiveness of multidisciplinary approaches in diabetes-related foot wound care, while developing skills to assess potential complications including infection and amputation risks. The unit will also develop your ability to create and communicate comprehensive strategies for planning, implementing, and evaluating care outcomes for patients with diabetes-related foot wounds. These advanced skills will position you to deliver expert care and improve outcomes for this patient population.
