You will complete a range of on-line and workbook tasks while undertaking an 8 week, full time, Practice Education Placement (PEP). In this placement you will consider your own role within human service organizations and apply and critique contemporary practice knowledge in leadership and management, supervision and mentoring, organizational behaviour, change management, organizational governance and service quality, professional development, and complex, program based multidisciplinary teams. A learning contract developed in OCC5070 will be used to guide practice learning. Practice education provides you with the opportunity to develop, integrate and enhance your practice skills to reach an entry level of competence in occupational therapy prior to graduation. By the end of the Practice Education Placement, you will be managing a caseload of clients independently. A portfolio assessment will be used to encourage reflection, a self-directed approach to learning and to provide a record of professional competencies as these are developing

Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate professional attitudes and behaviours at the level expected of a new graduate occupational therapist as assessed through the SPEF-R;
- Demonstrate autonomous and competent application of all stages of the occupational therapy process to the level expected of a new graduate in occupational therapy according to the Australian Minimum Competency Standards for New Graduate Occupational Therapists;
- Analyse and critique personal and professional learning in preparation for professional accreditation;
- Implement, critique and evaluate strategies to effectively meet own learning needs;
- Provide effective occupational therapy service considering the broad political, legal and industrial issues in the workplace, profession and client group;
- Critique and devise strategies to address the change management processes, human resource management and service planning and delivery structures within an organization;
- Critique professional issues arising from contemporary practice as a result of organisational and team management, finance and partnering with consumer groups;
- Investigate, analyse, synthesise and communicate effectively on an issue in an area of occupational therapy practice that contributes to professional practice or scholarship.
Workload
4 hours of on-campus tutorials 21 hours of online tutorials 1 x on-campus seminar – 2 hours Total= 27 hours across 12 weeks 2.25 hours per week 4 hours of self-directed learning per week Practice Education Placement (PEP) Practice Placement comprises 4.5 days per week for 8 weeks. Placement will require you to travel to practice locations. These may be near or away from the campus. It is possible that this placement could be undertaken anywhere in the world subject to the standard of supervision as well as legal requirements as the accompanying teaching and learning activities are completed online.
