Overview

This unit will enable you to consider your own role within health and human service organisations, and apply and critique contemporary practice knowledge and theory in areas such as leadership and management, team functioning and governance. In this unit, you will complete a range of on-line tasks while completing your fieldwork placement [edit practice education placement] as part of the unit OCC4082. In addition, you will attend several on-campus workshops when you have completed your practice education placement

Learning outcomes

  1. Identify, critique and discuss the use of collaborative, multidisciplinary, and interprofessional decision-making and planning approaches in professional practice;
  2. Discuss and critique the application of current and evidence-informed knowledge of occupational therapy and other appropriate and relevant theory in practice;
  3. Identify and reflect on own leadership and management skills for effective client-centred and interprofessional practice;
  4. Reflect on and discuss the use of relevant professional and operational support and supervision in practice;
  5. Identify and respond to the influence of student’s own values and culture on professional practice;
  6. Critique own performance within an organisation or agency demonstrating advanced skills in reflective practice and professional reasoning;
  7. Provide effective feedback to contribute to peer learning and development;
  8. Create an original scenario that highlights evidence-based occupational therapy service provision for a client or group in the context of a contemporary practice setting.

Workload

While completing your final fieldwork placement [practice education placement], you will complete five online tutorials (x5 two-hour online tutorials) and one online discussion forum task. Following completion of fieldwork [your practice education placement], you will attend three workshops.
