Overview
You will gain an understanding of your role as a podiatrist within the larger interprofessional healthcare setting. Through supervised practice, you will have the opportunity to apply your podiatry knowledge and skills in assessment, treatment and client education within a clinical setting. You will be exposed to professional, ethical and legal aspects of podiatry care and you will have opportunities to develop technical, clinical, personal and professional skills. The skills you develop in this unit will help you develop the competencies required for independent practice as a podiatrist.

Learning outcomes
- Communicate appropriately and effectively across written and verbal mediums, with patients, staff, and other health care stakeholders within a clinical setting.
- Conduct relevant skin, nail and neurovascular assessments of the lower limb under a significant level of supervision.
- Provide management strategies to treat patients with dermatological conditions affecting the lower limb under a significant level of supervision.
- Provide appropriate assistance to registered podiatrists in different clinical contexts including podiatric neurovascular assessments and treatment of skin and nail conditions.
- Demonstrate professional behaviour in patient care and rights that is culturally sensitive and in accordance with legal requirements.
- Identify and apply evidence-based practice to patient care in different clinical settings and contexts.
Workload
4 hours of supervised Work Integrated Learning sessions per week. 4 hours per week of self-directed study. Total per week = 8 hours for 18 weeks
