Overview

In this unit you will learn about psychological assessments suitable for use with an adult clinical population. This will include an introduction to basic clinical skills, enabling you to develop skills for building relationships with clients. You will develop skills in clinical interviewing, assessment of psychopathology and personality assessment. You will learn how to administer and interpret assessments. You will also learn how to use psychological assessment tools ethically, including the ethical use of psychological assessments across cultures.

Learning outcomes

  1. Design an appropriate psychological assessment plan
  2. Identify cultural and ethical factors that influence the conduct and interpretation of psychological tests
  3. Appropriately score and interpret data from a personality and intelligence test for adult clients
  4. Communicate findings from psychological assessments to clients and professional audience through both oral and written medium
  5. Apply psychological theory, history and assessment results to develop hypotheses on clients' problem

Workload

Contact hours for students: 3-hr workshop per week Additional requirements for students: Independent study including preparation, research activities, engaging with the literature, practicing test administration to make up the required minimum hours during the semester.
