Overview

This final unit will allow consolidation of advanced clinical practice. Skills in critical decision-making and clinical reasoning ability for the management of complex conditions will be emphasised. Problem solving and advanced clinical skills within the context of client or family-centred practice will be explored. Learning will be experienced in the online classroom environment with individually tailored clinical experiences.

Learning outcomes

  1. Evaluate the key performance characteristics of an advanced practice physiotherapist.
  2. Critically evaluate the evidence underpinning relevant physiotherapy practice, including individual research studies, systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines
  3. Answer a clinical question exploring an issue in advanced physiotherapy practice.
  4. Evaluate an intervention to address an issue in advanced physiotherapy practice.
  5. Summarise findings from a project and present them, consistent with the standards of a professional conference.
  6. Lead discussion of specific patient cases, with an advanced level of clinical reasoning.
  7. Evaluate the effectiveness of episodes of paediatric physiotherapy care.
  8. Apply the principles of reflective learning and self-assessment to develop your own professional learning goals and formulate a plan to meet those goals.

Workload

Approximately 12 hours per week of interaction with online lectures and course material, completion of assessment tasks and participation in online communications with other students and tutor, plus an equal amount of self-directed study time. An additional up to 5 days of individualised clinical experience will be scheduled.
