Overview

This unit introduces you to the world of innovation and its role in addressing the key challenges facing businesses and industries all over the world. You will be introduced to the key frameworks, stakeholders and considerations necessary for critically evaluating the corporate innovation space. You will explore how an entrepreneurial mindset can be harnessed to develop cutting edge business solutions and use your own ideas as the basis for a potential business opportunity that can be pitched to investors. The unit will enable you to identify, define and describe key corporate innovation and entrepreneurial frameworks, the importance of lean methodology, risk analysis and pitching to bring an idea into reality in two different contexts.

Learning outcomes

  1. Use a range of tools to effectively synthesise evidence to inform core business decisions or alterations, and identify and evaluate entrepreneurial venture opportunities;
  2. Develop an effective and persuasive submission for business to drive effective and innovative strategic change, improving business outcomes/performance;
  3. Create and present a professional information piece to stakeholders, investors and/or customers to garner interest and investment through oral and written communication methods;
  4. Demonstrate teamwork capacity and knowledge of leadership by using a group-work approach to examine innovation and entrepreneurial frameworks;
  5. Connect the skills learned in class to skill sets that are in demand in the jobs market/industry.

Workload

• One 3-hour workshop per week. • 9 hours of external class time per week including study time, pre-class and post-class tasks You should note that you are required to undertake one internship before the start of your level three units
