This unit will engage with the practice of working with clay based processes and will look at current exhibitions of contemporary artists that employ ceramics in their practices. You will explore the potential of clay in forming objects, replicating multiples, as well different firing and finishing techniques. This unit will also address the environmental considerations of working with clay. The unit will focus on the development of sculptural and object based technologies specific to the formed object. You will be encouraged to explore various traditional as well as contemporary processes.

Learning outcomes
- Explore and analyse various cultural and material values of clay-based objects;
- Investigate, critically analyse and develop the expressive and forming potential of clay-based processes and techniques;
- Produce new work achieved through exploring various clay-based processes and techniques;
- Demonstrate an awareness of the environmental impact of the production of clay-based objects;
- Demonstrate abilities to safely and effectively use specialist material processes and equipment to generate outcomes.
