This unit fosters significant learning by challenging you to critically examine the evolving landscape of design and collaborate across disciplines to address complex issues through innovative and responsible design solutions. You will integrate foundational knowledge, apply emerging practices, and reflect on their learning journey, ultimately developing a commitment to ethical and sustainable design that considers human and environmental impact.

Learning outcomes
- Define and describe traditional design approaches. Recognise and explain how these approaches can contribute to social inequities;
- Apply different frameworks (e.g., circular economy, human-centered design, decolonial design) to assess the social and environmental responsibility of new design methods. Compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of each framework;
- Synthesise knowledge from various ethical, sustainable, and inclusive design frameworks to develop a comprehensive understanding of responsible design;
- Collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Consider and integrate diverse perspectives and design approaches into collaborative projects;
- Demonstrate a commitment to ethical and inclusive design practices by challenging established norms and advocating for social justice through design solutions;
- Engage in ongoing self-reflection and critique of personal design practice. Document and analyse the evolution of your understanding of responsible design and its influence on your professional choices.
