Overview

This unit engages you in advanced concepts related to human-machine interaction, focusing on creating intuitive and functional interfaces. You will explore core principles of anthropometrics, the application of physical, semantic, and cultural constraints, and the mapping of control and feedback systems. You will address physical and virtual issues and affordances to develop user-centred solutions. The unit combines theoretical foundations - such as anthropometry, ergonomics, and cognitive psychology - with practical applications, deepening your understanding of how people physically and psychologically interact with objects and systems. You will be encouraged to take an experimental approach to problem-solving, integrating theoretical insights into tangible solutions. Project work will be documented in a production-ready folio, with final design proposals presented as detailed models or prototypes, demonstrating a refined, human-centred design approach.

Learning outcomes

  1. Understand key theoretical principles to analyse human-machine interactions effectively;
