This unit explores the retrofitting and creation of ecologically sensitive cities and regencies in Indonesia, with a focus on neighbourhood-scale projects. Through projects that coordinate the built and natural systems shaping our cities, you will develop foundational design skills, technical capacities, analytical approaches, and effective communication methods within spatial planning systems.

Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate understanding of the basic spatial planning process and components of the spatial plan;
- Strategically respond to complex problems and develop appropriate urban design responses, processes and outcomes relevant to Indonesian cities and regencies by leveraging relevant contemporary technologies with increasing skill;
- Appreciate systems-thinking approaches to link localised neighbourhood design interventions aimed at enhancing climate resilience to larger urban and regional scales;
- Effectively communicate design ideas and proposals through visual presentations, models, and reports, using clear and persuasive design language;
- Work collaboratively in a studio setting, incorporating feedback to refine and iterate design experiments toward a final proposal.
Workload
12 hours per week including 3 contact hours. The remaining 9 hours are to be used for self and group learning activities.
