This unit explores the relationship between natural and built systems in a changing climate and urbanising world. With a focus on case studies at different scales, you will be exposed to best practice urban design principles for sustainable development. It will also explore the factors and determinants central to developing cities planned and built with a focus on human and environmental health.

Requisites
Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate competencies in ecological approaches to contemporary urban design;
- Strategically respond to complex problems and develop appropriate urban design responses, processes and outcomes with increasing skill;
- Demonstrate advanced skills in research, applying creativity and critique to address urban design issues;
- Demonstrate an advanced level of competence in communication and presentation skills: written, oral and graphic;
- Understand and apply the rules of occupational health and safety appropriate to the unit of study.
Workload
12 hours per week including 3 contact hours. The remaining 9 hours are to be used for self and group learning activities.
