Overview

This unit aims to enable you to develop professional experience in industry-focused work environments. This unit is specifically designed to help you build transferable work skills, develop professional goals and expand their networking capacity. You will be placed with an industry partner for a six-month industry-based learning project, and complete university-assigned assessment tasks.

Learning outcomes

  1. Develop strategies for successful transition into a work placement and handle common risks, uncertainties and opportunities in the workplace.
  2. Apply effective and strategic communication, problem-solving and organisational skills to operate successfully in both independent and collaborative ways in the workplace.
  3. Draw upon discipline knowledge and skills to address practical industry challenges, and clearly communicate the solutions in both written and oral formats.
  4. Evaluate and critique biotechnological advancements within workplace settings.
  5. Evaluate ethical conduct, social and professional responsibilities in the workplace.
  6. Reflect on personal and professional growth to identify individual strengths and areas for improvement in the workplace.
  7. Design and construct a professional portfolio to demonstrate the ability to come up with resources and solutions to challenges in the biotechnology industries.
  8. Appraise current trends in biotechnology to identify potential growth areas.

Workload
