Overview

This unit introduces students to the design and development of interactive technologies that are accessible, inclusive and responsive to the diverse needs of users. Building on theory and principles from FIT1060 (Human Understanding & AI Navigation) and FIT2715 (User Interface Design), students will learn key concepts in digital inclusion, different facets of diversity including disability, age, culture, gender and the economic, ethical and legal reasons for designing inclusive digital products and systems. The course will introduce inclusive design methodologies, accessibility principles and requirements, approaches for understanding barriers experienced by diverse users, and methods and tools for creating, prototyping and evaluating interactive digital artefacts. Students will explore how emerging technologies can be designed with diverse needs in mind, and will develop practical skills for producing inclusive interactive systems that support meaningful participation across a range of users, communities and contexts.
