Overview

This unit will introduce approaches to the planning and implementation of learning analytics in complex organisational settings. The unit will explore ways to identify the drivers for adoption and use of learning analytics in different situations. The unit will also introduce approaches for identifying, engaging, and coordinating relevant stakeholder groups to shape up the key purposes for learning analytics. The unit will also examine approaches for defining, evaluating and critically assessing relevant engagement strategies, considering complex socio-cultural issues, to assure effective adoption of learning analytics. The unit will introduce methods and frameworks for assessing organisational capacity to implement learning analytics and to create an approach for the evaluation of the impact of learning analytics. Finally, the unit will focus on planning and critically assessing the adoption and use of learning analytics against relevant frameworks for change management, innovation diffusion, technology adoption, and complexity leadership.

  1. Apply and critically assess frameworks and models for learning analytics in complex organisational settings.
  2. Identify and evaluate socio-technical issues associated with learning analytics in complex organisational settings.
  3. Explain and critically appraise approaches to engage and coordinate different stakeholder groups to enhance the value of learning analytics.
  4. Develop and evaluate an organisational plan for adoption of learning analytics.

Workload

A minimum of 122 hours over the 6 week teaching period should be used to complete assignments, participating in discussions, private study and revision.
