Within this unit you will learn about the advanced care principles for further development of your knowledge and skills in providing emergency treatment and intervention to the obstetric patient as well as the paediatric and neonatal population. You will integrate knowledge and evidence-informed treatment, inclusive of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions to ensure optimum care of the obstetric and/or paediatric patient. During learning opportunities you will engage in scholarly discussion to evaluate and enhance clinical decision making and professional learning in this area of practice.

Learning outcomes
- Apply advanced clinical knowledge and skills in the management of obstetric emergencies.
- Integrate knowledge of paediatric pathophysiology to guide clinical management of severe illness.
- Justify evidence-informed treatment for obstetric and paediatric emergencies, inclusive of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
- Develop leadership in difficult conversations in obstetric and paediatric trauma contexts, promoting professional wellbeing, ethical communication, and team resilience.
- Analyse paediatric and obstetric trauma patterns to inform and improve professional practice.
- Engage in scholarly discussion to evaluate and enhance clinical decision making processes and professional learning.
Workload
You will be expected to complete at least 6 hours of distance education directed learning and a minimum of 6 hours of private study and self-directed learning per week. If completed on-campus, you will be expected to complete the equivalent of 6 hours of lectures, seminars or online tutorials per week in addition to 6 hours of self-directed learning.
