Overview

Person-centred communication skills are fundamental to supporting people with their mental health and wellbeing. In this unit you will develop and demonstrate evidence informed strategies for building high-quality and person-centred professional connections. Through a combination of analytic and experiential activities, you will explore the principles of trauma-aware and culturally-safe communication and strategies for identifying and responding to people experiencing mental health and wellbeing challenges. Opportunities will be provided to consider values, beliefs, and biases in interpersonal communication.

  3. Demonstrate interpersonal strategies for developing high-quality connections characterised by openness, positivity and other-awareness.
  4. Apply trauma aware and culturally responsive strategies to support safer and ethical interpersonal connections.
  5. Consider the impact of personal and professional values on interpersonal communication in support settings.

Workload
