Overview

This unit consolidates advanced concepts, knowledge, and skills to tackle complex urban design issues across scales - from neighbourhood to town, city, and region. Through critical research, analysis, and synthesis, this unit fosters innovative approaches and effective processes. It also emphasises building the skills needed to interact credibly with diverse stakeholders, ensuring that you can engage thoughtfully and responsively in real-world urban design contexts.

Requisites

Learning outcomes

1. Develop research inquiries and synthesise theoretical knowledge on complex, interconnected urban issues across scales and territories;
2. Strategically respond to research inquiries through the integration of theoretical knowledge, methodologies and data to the future needs of urban life;
3. Generate and articulate grounded insights into the physical, social, and environmental dynamics across scales and territories to inform and evaluate urban design interventions, processes and outcomes;
4. Practice ethical approaches to contemporary urban design and research inquiries;
5. Effectively communicate urban design inquiries and ways-of-knowing through visual presentations, models, analytical outputs and reports, using clear and persuasive design language.

Workload

24 hours per week including 6 contact hours plus 18 hours of independent study.
