In this unit you will apply the principles of enabling occupational participation, occupational rights and justice to promote health and wellbeing for an identified population. You will learn and apply collaborative project management skills to co-design a project plan, outlining the rationale for potential strategies for addressing a population-based occupational participation issue. Within this unit you will consolidate skills in information gathering and how to apply ethical principles to ensure safe practice when planning quality improvement activities.

Hurdle requirements: Practice education placement is a competency hurdle to meet a minimum of 1,000 hours of practice education placement that is a course requirement for course accreditation (OT Council). SPEF-R is the national tool used evaluate your performance on occupational therapy professional practice/practice education placements. You need to demonstrate the achievement of competency required to pass professional practice/practice education placement. Failure of any hurdle assessment task may result in failure of the unit.

Learning outcomes
- Identify, justify and implement collaborative practice with key stakeholders to co-design and plan a quality improvement community partnership project that addresses an occupational participation need for an identified population.
- Apply the principles of enabling occupational participation, occupational rights and justice to promote health and wellbeing for an identified population.
- Apply ethical principles in designing and planning quality improvement activities to a community partnership project and adapt service provision to ensure safe practice
- Interpret and synthesise primary and secondary information sources to guide community partnership project scope and service provision
- Interpret and apply different methodological approaches used in project management
- Interpret and disseminate relevant project management knowledge, skills and ideas to key stakeholders using effective verbal and written communication.
- Develop strategies to empower service providers, community leaders, consumers and carers to determine and set priorities for change; and
- Use findings of assessments/needs analyses to develop programs using best available evidence.
Workload
Practice education placement in external agencies for the equivalent of 15 hours a week for 11 weeks / 165 hours for the semester; 12 hours of on-campus workshops; 12 hours of on-campus tutorials; 5 hours of on-campus assessment in the form of oral project presentations; 6-8 hours per week of private study; and 6 supervision meetings with allocated Monash University practice education supervisor across the semester. Practice education placement: 22 days.
